Auresco was a quiet city at night -- granted, Minoth had yet to have been to a city as grand as Auresco (the Praetorium didn't count, and he would rather neglect its existence for the time being.) -- but, with how bustling and loud the merchants and Torna folk are, it was a pleasant surprise by how peaceful everything became once the sun set over the horizon.
It would be more pleasant, though, if Minoth's own thoughts were as peaceful as the world outside his window; but when you're traveling with the Aegis to take down one of equivalent power; of more destructive power (from what Minoth has experienced, at least) then he should've known that said peace truly would be fleeting for the time being.
(His mind keeps wandering back to that latter thought. He wishes it would go in a different direction for once. But that is wishful thinking.)
Running a hand through his hair, Minoth sighs. He decides to pull out the band holding his hair together, letting the strands fall over his face. He plays with the band in one hand and taps his pen against the still blank page with the other, hoping the repetitive movements might stir inspiration.
That, like he'd expected, proved fruitless, as ten minutes later he still had no idea where to begin.
Writers block is a problem that Minoth did not usually encounter. He prided himself on being able to write anything about their experiences, especially his own -- so this roadblock right before their final battle was simply frustrating. Because if there was ever a time he needed to write something, it was now. There was so much he wanted to get down before; just in case things took a turn for the worse.
Minoth does not enjoy thinking that there is a worst possible outcome for their group: but he has never been an optimist, and years have left him more jaded despite his best efforts. Being a pessimist is a nuisance, even to himself, but every group needs one, doesn't it?
Still. Now would be one time when he would rather not be consumed by thoughts of the words. And he knows exactly how to prevent that.
What he can do (and always does) to help himself is to counteract his frequent pessimism is to seek out the exact opposite, and luckily for him, the cure was a person, one who had golden eyes and sun-kissed silver hair.
Minoth pulls his hair up and pushes the stack of papers and his quill to the side, stretching his arms and cracking his knuckles before grabbing his Blade weapons and placing them back in their respective holsters. (You can never be too careful; he's learned in his time traveling by himself. He knows it's not necessary. But still.)
He exits the room and does not bother to check Addam's next door -- he knows the Prince wouldn't be asleep. He'd been like that for the past week, Minoth having to come and fetch him and ensure he actually rests, all the while feeling rather hypocritical because he doesn't exactly keep a healthy sleep schedule either.
Minoth has a feeling that Addam will be outside, so that is where he goes. He knows how the Prince adores stargazing all around the Tornan Titan, ever prideful for the beauty of his home. As Minoth looks up to the sky, he smiles as he notices there's an Aurora over the Capital tonight -- just the hint he needs to locate the Prince's whereabouts.
The hotel makes it oddly difficult to get up onto the balcony that resides above it, but Minoth's pretty sure it's for maintenance only. But he knows how to get around tricky places, and it appears that his Prince does too.
As Minoth reaches the top of the ladder, he finds Addam just where he expected. The Prince was flat on his back, arms crossed under his head as a make-shift pillow between him and the wooden boards of the floor. Minoth says nothing as he walks over to him; lets the sound of his footsteps to the work for him.
Addam doesn't react as Minoth settles down beside him, copying his position to a T. He lets the silence wash over them; he lets himself become immersed in the faint rustling of the trees; the ripple of the water all the way by the entrance that can be heard this far away; the white noise and buzz of the lights which adorned the Capital.
He didn't realize that he'd closed his eyes until he heard Addam rustle beside him, and once he opens them, he finds himself face to face with those golden eyes that, despite Minoth's best efforts, always manage to bring a sense of calm and familiarity over him.
"Can't sleep?" is how Addam begins their conversation, always starting with the obvious, always giving Minoth an opening to either tell him what is on his mind, or to answer plainly, in his own way of saying that he does not want to talk about it right now.
The Prince of Torna was too good for Minoth.
But Addam Origo does not think so. And Addam Origo always lets Minoth in.
Minoth has so many damn feelings about Addam Origo that he cannot explain to any end.
But Minoth will take what he can get.
And Minoth will give to Addam as much as he can, too.
"Seems I'm not the only one," is how Minoth replies, and Addam smiles ever so slightly, showing that he understands how Minoth works; how he wants this converstation to go.
As Minoth takes a moment to look back at the stars, he feels fingers interlace with his own. And he knows that Addam has just as much on his mind, too, that Addam needs this as much as Minoth does.
"Ah. That's why you're up here, too. Thinking of her, aren't you?" Minoth begins, and he looks back just in time to see that expression that only one person can bring to Addam's face; the mention of Flora always, no matter what, can ease any of his Prince's worries.
"You know me too well, dear Minoth," Addam voice is soft and gentle, almost a whisper against the night sky. "You know what's so fascinating about Torna's aurora's?"
Minoth raises an eyebrow. "That they're the most beautiful of any Titan's? Sounds like you have a bias, if that's the case."
Addam's laugh is loud and boisterous and it makes Minoth's heart soar against his best attempts to get it to stay grounded.
"You not necessarily incorrect," Addam, of course, ends that sentence with an exaggerated wink, and Minoth cannot help but roll his eyes. He does not give him the glory of a response to that, either.
Addam then turns towards the sky, pointing vaguely southeast, where the aurora continues to colour the sky in its azure blues and rivulet greens. "Actually. It's that they go around the Titan almost in a circular manner. So that no matter where you are, you'll always be able see them. And it's the same one, in the same sky."
"So each time one appears, she's looking at one, too. So you feel connected to her that way, despite the distance." Minoth finishes for him, and he feels his own expression soften too, thinking just how excited Flora becomes whenever she sees not only Addam, but Minoth, too.
"You know me too well, don't you?" Addam chuckles, gaze fixed on the sky. "Looking up and seeing it, being reminded how connected we all are -- it truly does help me fight. Thinking of everyone, everywhere, that is."
With Addam's words, that inspiration Minoth was searching for hits him. What he needs to write -- the perfect piece to gather all his emotions; all of Addam's; all of everyones -- it needs to be about who they fight for. Not only that. It's about who they protect, too.
Minoth thinks of the future -- the one he's fighting for. The one Addam is fighting for, for his family -- for his family that is with them, in the Capital -- the Aegis, Milton and Mikhail, the Emperor and Jewels of Mor Ardain; a mercenary turned Knight of Torna and her Blades; such an unlikely group but one that Minoth will be forever grateful to have fallen into.
But also, his family THAT is currently miles away but will always be under the same sky, no matter where on the Tornan Titan they may be.
The shine of Addam's eyes as his thinks of Flora, of his wife, of the one he holds dearest to his heart, is so soft and heartwarming and Minoth cannot help but grin -- seeing someone care for another like that, seeing someone care the way Addam does -- he doesn't think anyone could ever come close.
"If you'll excuse me, my Prince, but I found just what I was looking for up here."
Addam smiles and his eyes shine, "Glad I could help you find it."
Minoth says nothing and knows he does not need to. He simply waves with his back turned, but what Addam will never know is that as Minoth climbs the rungs of the ladder, his thinks to himself Me too.
The words are forming themselves in his mind against vivid images as he walks back to his room.
So many faces flash by his eyes, but two stand out the brightest against the rest: golden eyes and silver hair and such a large, genuine smile paired with dark brown hair, loose and braided and shining blue eyes always adorned with that soft and kind expression; the two people that mean so much to Minoth and have given so much to him that he does not think he will ever be able to repay them.
He knows exactly where to start, and exactly what his title should be.
What You Must Protect.
No matter what, Minoth will try his damned hardest to protect everyone, until the very end.
i reiterate you should go follow rose and read their fics.
