thank you for the kisses
thank you for telling me i have beautiful eyes

thank you for the thoughts
thank you for the intrigue
thank you for the patience, even if i'll never know why

thank you for letting me speak
thank you for letting me still

thank you for understanding when i won't
thank you for encouraging when i will

my dreams, towering, but i shy away from the ladder
thank you for giving me shoulders to stand on

my memory, ineffable, but i forget my intelligence
thank you for giving me time and space to remember

thank you for all of these tender things; it's true
but most of all, thank you for looking at me and smiling, too
