Disorientation, Metaphor, Simile

Animals, trapped in bodies with overthinking minds.

I can hope but I dare not dream
(what careless wills have brought me)
The lies which lurk cavernous in between
(the present which perilously sought me)

A nest of rats and hens, which speaks
In jubilation of light gone beyond the hill
A broken trust by a friend half-mended
But I stand alone with my family still

Your secret is safe.
Your secret is safe.
I, your secret -
- with you, I am safe.

I am safe as the truth when hands tie together
When emotion is trusted and stories are told
I am safe as the sigh of a barrier shingled
For a sky which is clear as the devil is old

I am bold with the song of an arrogant glissando
I am hushed with the kiss of an improbable dog
I am led by the nose to a flinchless crescendo
I am dropped, on the sidewalk, with ceremony wrong

But now, I flinch.
Left alone, I tremble.
My head clouds with sorrow
My ears shut to song

My breath torn out an impossible wrench
The dog, he is howling
This life is too long.
