last time first and first time last
he's got the longest and the sharpest claws
he thinks he's greater than God
(he thinks he's the fifth dimension, two bits in a month)
and if he is great and powerful, then he's the man behind the curtain, playing the computer console
i'm figuring out how to spin it
(what, you mean this is all spin?)
no, i mean, it's as true as i can make it
(but you are making it, you say?)
no, i mean, this is not a story about wonderful people
(do i get a vote in that?)
what i mean to say is,
how to frame it. how to reconstruct the story, out of my memory, to deliver it to you. and is it still true. is it still true, or was it ever
thinks he's greater than God - and it's not about the blasphemy, it's that he's a human, and he doesn't want to accept it. doesn't want us to accept it. doesn't want us to accept ourselves.
the big old house. the driveway
(the stain on the stucco. the cracks and the weeds)
the cramped carpeted rooms
(the reform school of a mcmansion)
what dusty plants are dying here
what playroom toys are turning study
what banker's greed is broiling this place
where never a pet has walked
bizarre and sinister. arcane and weird.
as witches's covens go, we could have done with a bit more excitement.
as convents and monasteries go, we could have done with a bit more prayer.
but strange people belong in strange places, you know.
witness protection. hot girl walks. trauma response. cats and dogs.
and a garbage disposal in the bedroom.
come again?
and a garbage disposal in the bedroom.
did you hear me?
an old, bound-for-the-garbage garbage disposal stored in its original cardboard box under the writing desk in the bedroom.
i think it may well be the site of ragnarok or armageddon. i think when the world ends, as a fun surprise to everyone, they'll start the reckoning here.
they'll rip a vacuous hole in the earth (the susurrus of thesauric legend) and drag the wizard down into it, for his claws to catch on the sundered asphalt; for his gallstones to activate the antimatter machine.
they'll take this one first. they'll take him by the tips of his ears. they'll take him because they were watching him, just as he always said. they'll take him because he knew too much.
better they don't take me. i'm happy to know nothing at all.
