on courage

a never-ending waterfall of white-person patois
what you might more accurately call vernacular

you might also call it what happens when an unstoppable force becomes an immovable object. some have said that's just an old lady.

but whether carrying complaint or color commentary, the waterfall (the fire hydrant, erupting at the curb) flows constant. it's always rumbling, whether free beneath our feet or bottled into occupation.

thousands of years, the water has had, to temper itself, to direct itself. each neurotic tributary, a stone in the stream.

this characteristic natural feature simultaneously: loud, dirty, disruptive / gentle, cleansing, soothing.

how do you think a waterfall feels, when it wakes each morning?

probably, it thinks, another day, gotta put my face on. let's do it.
