the bear poem
timmy and bobby and georgie were bears.
bobby the bear didn't have so much hair.
when in the elevator they met a baby bear of their set,
they laughed at her smile and loved her a while and haven't let go of her yet.
to be read with rhythm of a defined pattern, in 2/4 time:
1-and-a 2-and-a 1-and-a 2
1-and-a 2-and-a 1-and-a 2
--a 1--a 2-e-and-e-a 1 (2)--a 1--a 2-and-a 1
--a 1-and-a 2--a 1-and-a 2--a 1-and-a 2-and-a 1
similarities bear to limericks and nonsensical, anthropomorphic quatrains such as humpty dumpty. the fivetuplet is of particular interest, and as the triplet feel holds even though initial attempts included duplets and a meter change from 3/4 to start, it provides a delightful substantiated differentiation within the rhythmic contour.
one can also note an imperfect alignment between the initial listing of the bears and the final description of their actions as relate to the baby bear - bobby is most apt to laugh at her smile, and georgie not to let go. timmy doesn't really care either way...
