joining the war on lunatics
do you figure we're at peace with the sinners in the war
with the ire of the silent deadly bushfire war
do you figure we're asleep, or in too deep
do you figure we don't know it, or don't know quite how to show it
do you figure we've been held just as tightly as we're ever going to be held
and now we've been dismissed, soldier, dismissed - away, peasant, away
and it's only lunatics who want these things; only lunatics who need these things
only lunatics who go to mental wars with the misplacement of a mug in the physical
it's only lunatics who remember falsely and tell their stories true
it's only heretics who hate their parents and find new faces to view
we sound like we're crazy - and no offense, we are
we sound like we've never even heard of what it means to be normal
but then, how could we fly away from it with such great alacrity?
how could we be so efficient and so masterful?
are these crises all an accident? is the mounting horror merely a mistake?
a war, you say, a war. against the lunatics, wage a war.
make it illegal and immoral to foist your morals over to them
make it adroit and permanently gauche to exhibit their strange tendencies
skirmishes about the right of souls to speak their minds right-freely
not to the public, but to their environs, without having to couch themselves so tweely
battles in foxholes all bouncing around with the energy of a child-size martyr
fighting for the end of times when social currency comes for barter
i am a freak, you know. i've found that i'm a freaking weirdo.
and anyone who could hope to change me, lest estrange me, is even stranger yet
someday when they lay me in the ground, or burn me like a witch
they'll think about how strange i was - the sex cult in a ditch
they'll mop their brows and keel their sighs and fetch their diamond rings
they'll sit about and ask themselves just one single solitary thing
about that one, you know, that we've gotten done with,
the one who lived alone
the one who dreamed of being an old jay man instead of a crone
was that the last of 'em? was that the gross of the guard?
are there any more weirdies comin' up behind?
is the world normal, now? is the world safe?
is it over?
is it meant to be over?
