"Are you a man, Spock?"
It was a curious question, one people of Earth in centuries past would have only ever asked with a broad harshness in their eyes and ears, waiting for a response either cowed or shouted back.
But Jim neither displayed nor possessed any such thing.
"Certainly not strictly a man, Captain," Spock answered, as if solely to prove the point that if the inventively gender-neutral "Mr." had been used, it would have been all the same.
"You're very interesting."
"I am only what I am. No more. No less."
"And every day you enchant me more."
