Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles)/Rex (Xenoblade Chronicles 2)

Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles), Rex (Xenoblade Chronicles 2)

Triple Drabble, Prompt Fill

"This is where Juju's buggy crashed..."

Shulk tapped his chin, worried his lip, and flexed each joint of his mechanical fingers. It was still new enough that he noticed these things; before, in the world of the Bionis and the Mechonis, his tics had become as much unassuming background noise as the very concept that they lived on the rotting corpses of two colossal titans.

And to speak of unassuming background noise, there was Rex, who made a lot more...noise, when he stood about.

First a hum. Then a creak, as he surveilled the area. Then:

"Who's Juju?"

"A little squirt - well, he was, when he crashed his buggy." There, quietly, was Rex, moving to stand just behind his shoulder. "He got older and taller, but when I first met him he was an earnest type, just trying to help everyone the best he could, and probably grating on a few nerves in the process."

Rex chuckled. "Sounds like me, at that age."

While the thought of turning to face him seemed logical, the thought of not moving was far more enticing. Instead, Shulk wondered (a little bit) coyly, "Did you ever crash a buggy?"

Or a mobile artillery?

"Can't say that I did." Now Rex's chin, digging into his shoulder. A very familiar pressure, to Shulk. "Owing to the fact that I lived on a much smaller Titan than you ever did."

Shulk laughed aloud, only slightly disturbing the handsome attachment he'd garnered. "That's right! And you were an orphan, too."

"I gather that was a pretty popular suit, in your world."

"Pretty much. It was a rarer find to see a kid who did have parents."

"Not s'bad, though - you could just pick up on your buggy and leave, eh?"

"If you had one."

"If you did!"
