Inscrutable Teach, they call him.

Well, maybe Mia's just autistic, or maybe he really is that hard to read, if everyone else thinks so too. When literally everyone on Mira has skeletons in their closet, because nobody made it here without leaving something behind, she certainly doesn't hold any zipped-lip-ness against him, but gosh, she wishes he were just a little bit easier to talk to.

Though Teach is an Astral Crusader, he doesn't use his rifle very often, preferring to wield his specially-designed javelin that breaks in two along a cord within the casing.Trading one kind of secrecy for another, huh? Impossible to figure out, this guy!

So, Mia decides to start leaving letters for Teach in his barracks. Not coded or anonymous or anything, just...more low-key.

She asks him about his days, and tells him how she admires him, and recommends Nopon caravans that have the best snacks. Say, Teach, are you even, like, a snack type of guy?

And Teach, with no objections, writes back. He tells her about the mornings, watching the sunrise from the top of BLADE Tower, in sort of a practical-poetic way. He tells her that her bare earnestness is an astonishing thing, to him. He admits to being partial to leclati, which Mia has never heard of.

Then, when they see each other in person, Teach is a little warmer. His smile, earnest. Or...maybe Mia just feels a little warmer.

Maybe she's just a bit of a disaster bisexual.
