And what Minoth does is hold himself away, repress every possible meaningful impulse, and act caring but not like he cares - he goes outward but never inward, because he's scared of what's in there both that it might hurt others and that it might hurt him.
But eventually he has to ask. "Didn't it ever occur to you that I love you? That I need you?"
Minoth looks like he's seen all beauty. Addam doesn't know how to respond to that. He just knows how to love.
