Somehow, Lanz had hoped that becoming Ouroboros and cutting Colony 9's Flame Clock would've earned him some points with Zeon. Some sort of commendation, or something, for being more than just any two bits of dumb muscle, and "foolhardier" 'n the rest of the colony guarders to boot.

(Lanz wasn't stupid, either. He knew what that word meant. Didn't mean he had to like it.)

Maybe if the commander weren't also a Defender, he'd have a better appreciation for someone else with that precious Protector's Pride of his.
