Actually, no. There's a common misconception (runs both ways, in fact) that if you're allergic to bees you'd also have an allergic reaction to getting stung by a wasp, due to the idea that despite evolutionary differences, "venom's venom" and wasps' venom would have evolved alongside their appearance to match that of bees. But, not so. The common allergen is a hyaluronidase that is rarely actually the cause of the reaction. Then there's the misconception that hornets are "real bees" since many folks (non-entomologists) will recall that wasps are the fakers and be satisfied with just one. It's a fascinating discipline when you consider the cultural memory surrounding these animals - and yes, insec... [read more]

source? lol. they all make my arm swell up the same
MosquitoAmigo
I'm not going to dignify that with a response.
AddamO3549
That's fascinating! I feel really confident with this information - not like a machine-generated source. Isn't it wonderful what you can find online?
MosquitoAmigo
Glad someone appreciates it /gen
AddamO3549
Oh no. It appears this one is AI-generated too...
MosquitoAmigo
No, no, those are tone tags - that one means "genuine" while that clown up above was being /neg (negative). Or maybe /s for sarcasm, except I think he meant it.
AddamO3549
Oh! Well, in that case: thank you, kind internet stranger, for sharing your knowledge /wh (warmhearted). ^-^
GormottiChild [OP]
great work everyone. good to know im not gonna die. enjoy your newfound friendship or...whatever
Minoth sat back. Warmhearted. That was something new, wasn't it?
Why did he go on these forums anyway? To be a "kind internet stranger"? To stunt on the uninformed, who chose to remain uninformed and mock anyone who did try to improve and expand their knowledge of the world? To help small children who by no means should be accessing the internet without parental supervision, even if it was to determine the right amount of freakout for a beesting?
(Well, if small children needed to go to the internet for answers to such questions, they probably didn't have any true parental support available. Another point for the inquisitive mind.)
Knowledge is nothing if not shared. Yes, Minoth could derive infinite enjoyment from learning new insect facts and figures, but that enjoyment was exponentially amplified by the chance to put his communication skills to use and share it with someone.
He'd never messaged anyone privately online, and he'd never really intended to. But if AddamO3549 could be open to trying new things, so could MosquitoAmigo.
MosquitoAmigo: Nice chatting with you earlier (brief as it was). I gather you're not really an entomology devotee.
AddamO3549: Likewise - about the chatting, that is. I was just worried about Milton. But maybe you can teach me the basics?
