Day 22 - Sleepover
Sena's mind kept returning to what Shania had reminded her of, no matter how she tried to concentrate on the environment around her.
When she first met Mio, she'd resisted being appreciated for who she was practically tooth and nail - with all the apparently considerable strength she had! Because...what if someone else found out you were a fraud? Better to beat them to it, right?
Being thrown in with Ouroboros had helped with that, somewhat, in the sense that she just didn't have time to force her self-deprecation down everyone's throats (and it was sort of hard to coerce underestimation when you'd first met someone across a shadowy, burnt-grass battlefield).
Now, here was Shania. She'd challenged Sena straight off, and made herself look almost dangerous. Weren't they supposed to be teammates? Or work together companionably, anyway.
After that conversation? Sena felt too nervous to even ask her if she wanted an extra blanket.
She missed early terms, when everyone had just broken past their shells of fear at the world around them and chattered excitedly to their colony mates about all the happenings of the day.
With so much life before them...
"Shania?"
Silence. Lots of it. Then: "What is it?"
"I can't sleep," Sena tried, somewhat pluckily.
"Well, what do you want me to do about it?"
Can't sleep either, huh?
"We're the same, you said. So, I was wondering-"
"Quit it. Forget I said anything."
She certainly didn't seem to want Sena's approval, huh?
And yet Sena still wanted Shania's so badly.
Not like she could call up the commander, or Monica, and ask for help. Other soldiers...weren't nearly this complex.
Sena had never met someone so bitter. It almost scared her, how much she was drawn to Shania regardless.
She couldn't dream of starting over.
